0-18 Months
Welcome to our Owls family group!
This room is for children aged 0-18 months. We offer a peaceful and serene space for our babies to grow and explore at their own pace. We aim to provide the children in this room with the right environments to play, rest, and allow the natural unfolding of the child, as per the curiosity approach.
At Saffrons Park Nursery our Owls room offers a large open plan space with lots of natural light. There is a separate sleep room, milk kitchen and a garden to free flow to.

18-24 Months
At 18 months our Toddlers move into our Squirrels family group, where they're encouraged to explore different facets of learning through means including construction, imaginative play, malleable materials, sand, and water. They also have access to an Atelier (an exploration and creative space), as well as overhead projectors investigating light and shadow and exploring shape, colour, and texture.
Children will start to learn different skills that they can use independently within their play. We believe that children should have the freedom to follow their own interests on their own agenda, through their play. Within our rooms all resources have their own space so that the children can quickly learn how to access the items that they will need within their play. Children are taught to 'put things back where they belong' at the end of each session, this begins to build up a respect for their own environment and the resources in it. Having a large open plan learning space where children can express themselves, gives us flexibility to regularly adapt and develop the spaces around the children.

2-3 Years
Following on from our Squirrels group our children move into our Sparrows and Robbins family group which is designed for our 2-3 year olds. There are dedicated spaces for cooking, construction, sand, water and digging, play-doh and malleable and an Atelier for their creative development.

Our Sparrows and Robbins group also has a beautiful natural outdoor environment that is used in all weathers. The outdoors is available to the children all day, if they wish to be outside. Forest school skills are introduced to the group where they start to learn about fire safety, how to use different tools and the natural world around them.

3 years +
The year before children go to school, they move to our outdoor classrooms for their final year in Preschool. By this point, we believe that our children are capable of directing their play independently, as well as developing their own theories and solutions to problems. Learning objectives and activities are individually planned around their interests and learning styles. Every child is assigned a family worker who is readily available to address any concerns you may have, ensuring open communication at all times.
The year before children go to school, they move to our Pre - School group. Children have access to the forest school atelier throughout their week where they will learn lots of different skills such as using tools for a purpose, climbing, swinging and cooking on the fire. The outdoors is available to the children all day, if they wish to be outside.
We believe that children are capable of leading their own learning, supported by experienced practitioners and early years teachers. We encourage children to develop their own theories so they can make sense of the world and to explore those theories with their friends. We listen to their ideas, take them seriously and help facilitate their research : "How can you tie a knot","why do limes sink, but oranges float", where can you find a mug with 200ml on it","where do vegetables come from." These were some of the questions
that have been asked by our children that have led to project work. when children want to find the answer to something we support their enquiry based learning. Children are individually planned for around their interests and learning styles. We prepare your child for school by encouraging independenceand confidence. All children have a family worker and are available at any time to talk about concerns you may have.

Our baby room is guided by the principles of Emmi Pikler. We believe that babies need time, space and the right environment in which to naturally unfold.
