At saffron Park Nursery we believe that it is important for children to explore as much of nature as possible. We provide them an outdoor environment where they can do just that. We are lucky at Saffrons Park Nursery to have access to extensive garden spaces. Children have access to a garden space during free flow time, where they are able to transport resources inside and outside, in order to enhance their learning.
We have a secure play areas for different aged groups that are used by the different learning spaces at different times of the day. The garden is set up by children’s family workers around the children’s individual interests. In our nature garden children can learn about planting and how different fruit and vegetables grow. They also learn about nature, by observing a wormery, caring for caterpillars and releasing butterflies, and other minibeasts. We also have a bird box that is wired up to our tv screen so that the children can watch them nesting when the time comes. “How can we make vegetable soup?” was a question that was asked by a child in pre-school. The children explored how to peel, cut and cook different vegetables.
Children have access to a soft play area, that includes a climbing area and a ball pool. The climbing area provides access from our downstairs learning spaces, up to our upstairs learning spaces. Children are able to move freely between these learning spaces within our ‘free flow’ learning times.’
All children have access to our edible garden and forest school garden.
